Many of the studies in Dr. Green’s review also relied entirely on the subjects’ reports, rather than objective data. The men in these studies reported a slightly higher success rate than women, although the reasons are unclear. Dr. Green suggests that women may be less likely to quit due to concerns about gaining weight, or they may get treatment sooner, when the risk of a relapse is higher.
